If you're like me, you have tons of photos of your children by themselves, with their friends, with grandparents, and even with dad. However, the only photos you have of you and your children are selfies, taken from your phone, when you're trying to "capture a moment". Usually these selfies cut off someone's body part and if you're me, you're hair is usually in a messy bun. Other times, you just don't take the picture because you may be self conscious, or you just forget to include yourself in the memories. Well, I am here to tell you that a "Mommy and Me" photo session is worth the time and the images captured will be treasured forever. So, why are mommy and me sessions so important?
1. There is nothing more special and precious than the bond between a mommy and her child.
The day you became a mom, everything changed. You experienced unconditional love for the first time and it is hard to believe how much love you can actually have for one person. It is a love like no other and it deserves to be celebrated. Through each stage of life, you grow, along with your child and no matter how old they are, they will always be your baby. I am 38 years old and if my mom could take a photo DAILY with me, she would and I am quickly realizing, I am just like her. I want the photos, at every age and at every stage, so I can remember the relationship I had at each phase of life with my children.
2. You are usually the one behind the camera.
How do all the special moments get recorded? Usually, it's the moms! We want to make sure every important event, feeling, celebration, or occasion is documented and if we don't do it, who will? But let's be real, who puts on all those celebrations? We do and we deserve to have documentation of our smiles and laughter and candid response to things happening in our kids lives. It is important that you get in front of the camera, with your babies, young and older.
Below is one of my favorite photos of my mom, taken at my wedding, when my husband and I left the venue to start our lives together. This photo shows the raw emotion that a mother has for her children. She was the planner, organizer, designer, and wonder woman behind my special day and at the end of it, she just let it all out. I am so thankful for this photo because it is a true representation of what a mom sacrifices for her child and the unconditional love they demonstrate.
3. Your children want pictures of you
Now that I am older and have a family of my own, I love going to my parent's house in TN and looking at photo albums and scrapbooks my mom has made. My mom is someone who takes photos of EVERYTHING, all the time, but looking through these albums of my childhood, there aren't many with her in them. Over the past few years she has made an effort to make sure she gets the "selfies" and has my dad or someone else take photos of her with the grandkids. These photos are so special to not only her, but to me as well. They are what I will look at in years to come, and ultimately what my kids and my nieces and nephews with look at and they will remember the special bond they have always had with "Nanna". We want pictures of ourselves with the person who has always loved us unconditionally- our mom.
